Welcome To Takena!
Built in 1971, Takena Elementary School is in its fourth decade of proudly educating Albany children. Located on a 4.5 acre campus, Takena serves students from Albany's historic downtown neighborhoods.
MISSION STATEMENT: "Takena's mission is to ensure life-long learning for all students."
VISION STATEMENT: "Takena Elementary School will be a safe and positive environment where staff will help all students to become successful learners."
Our School Is Proud To Offer
Strong Oregon State Assessment Scores
In the spring of 2011, our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students continued to perform well on the Oregon State Assessment Tests. As a result, Takena is one of only three schools in Greater Albany Public School District to meet the federal standard for Annual Yearly Progress (AYP).
Reading and Math Support
Our teachers support reading and math programs that place all students in large and small groups for daily reading and math instruction at the instructional level of the students.
Our Teachers
At Takena we are very proud of the quality of our teachers that educate your children. If you would like to know more about your child's teachers qualifications, please give us a call, we would be glad to answer any questions that you may have.
Character Education
We are proud to be a Positive Behavior Instruction Support (PBIS) school. We have a PBIS team that plans a variety of classroom and school-wide character education activities emphasizing positive behavior in and out of school. We are strong believers in the three Wolf Pack Rules: Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Responsible.
Recycling Club
Fourth grade students oversee the school's recycling effort. Students collect and sort recyclable materials on a weekly basis.
Attendance Policy
We encourage students to attend school regularly and provide alternatives for those who miss an
excessive number of days. We ask for support from all parents to report absences on a daily basis to ensure accountability for all of our students.
Parents Are Our Partners
Parent Club
Our Parent/Teacher Club (PTC) provides enrichment experiences for pupils including field trips and assemblies and supporting the school environment through the purchase of library books, computers, and playground equipment. We encourage all parents to become involved and support Takena's students.
Volunteering
Volunteers provide help in many ways including Parent Club support, supervising field trips and extra-curricular activities, and assisting in the classroom. All volunteers must pass a district background check annually in order to assist with our students.
Site Council
Parents work with teachers, administrators and support staff to make decisions about staff development and school improvement.
Our Focus For Improvement
School improvement goals created by our district are supported at the school site in many ways. Our work in Professional Learning Communities during early release days allows teachers to work on classroom instruction and evaluating student learning. Our Site Council supports our focus through their input and working with teachers at Takena.
