Yes, at the discretion of the current school. Sometimes class sizes, attendance or behavior issues, or inability to maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA will factor into the school’s determination of the best placement for the student. To apply to remain at your current school after you move, you will need to update your address with your school's office and complete a Special Circumstance form.

No. Every transfer request is considered individually, but all final decisions for transfers are not made until after the transfer window has closed.

At this time, GAPS does not use a lottery system for transfer approvals.

Unfortunately, that means that grade at that school is not accepting transfer applicants at this time, generally due to class sizes. Because enrollment numbers can fluctuate, please check again at the next transfer window for any possible changes.

No. We do not keep a waiting list.

• For all in district transfer requests made during a transfer window, the transfer is good through level change. New requests are required if you want to attend a school other than your assigned neighborhood school for all incoming 6th and 9th graders (except 6th graders at Timber Ridge).
• If you moved and completed a Special Circumstance transfer, your transfer is valid
  • Through level change for secondary schools,
  • Through the school year for elementary schools. You will need to reapply for a transfer during the spring window to remain at your current school.

Transfer requests will be considered on a case by case basis during our summer grace period. This grace period is available between the end of the Spring transfer window and the third Friday in August. Families may not be notified until after current and new enrollment has been assessed and evaluated in August. If a grade was closed during the Spring transfer window it will also be closed during the summer grace period.

A second transfer window will be open in the winter (around mid-November through December) to request a transfer for the second semester.

Yes. Transfers may be revoked for attendance below 90%, behavior that results in suspension or expulsion, or grade point average below 2.0. Class sizes are also considered. Revocation will occur at semester break unless otherwise considered to be in the best interest of the student.

You must contact the district you wish to transfer to and abide by their guidelines for transfers. You will also need to complete form 131a (or form 131b for Spanish), Request for Inter District Transfer Out of Resident District. Return this completed form to Shelly Johnson at shelly.johnson@albany.k12.or.us

First, you must apply during a transfer window, either in the spring for the upcoming school year or in the winter for second semester. Second, you must submit a Transfer Out or Release form with your boundary district. This must be received before your registration will be processed.

As long as you continue to live at the same address, you do not need to apply again. Inter-district transfers are valid through 12th grade. However, if you do move, please contact your school to update your address and complete a Special Circumstance form.

You may also be required to obtain a new release from your boundary district if you still reside outside of GAPS.

The intent to enroll process is governed by state regulations.  School districts have 10 days to process the intent and notify families of their decision.

Appeals for virtual charter denials are handled by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).  Details for how to work through this process will be included in the denial letter from the district.

No. Once you are approved to enroll in a virtual charter your student becomes a “resident” of that district and is no longer eligible for GAPS instruction.
