Volunteer

Parent and community volunteers make essential contributions to our schools and enrich educational opportunities for students. Before signing up to help in a school, volunteers must complete the required criminal background check forms.

Criminal Background Check

An approved criminal background check is required before volunteering. Interested volunteers must complete the following online form. Approved applications are valid for the school year only.  All applications will expire June 30 of each year and will need to be resubmitted annually.  Applications for the 2025 / 2026 school year can be submitted starting June 1, 2025.

After completing the form, allow one to two weeks for processing. Contact your school to check your status to begin volunteering.

An incomplete request, or missing documentation could result in a request being denied. If that happens, an email will be sent indicating the request is denied and another request can be made addressing the issues identified. If approved, you will receive notice that you are cleared to start.

Volunteer Policies

The district requires volunteers to be familiar with volunteer policies JHFF, IICC and IICC-AR. Please view the District’s Volunteer Guidelines (Spanish) (English)

Once you log in to the site, you will see a list of courses assigned to you, and the date on which they are due. To begin a course, click on the title then follow the prompts.

To earn a certificate of completion, you must complete all sections of a course and pass the quiz. You do not have to take SafeSchools courses in one sitting; however, if you are called away, the system will remember where you left off and allow you to pick up again at that point.

Your participation will help to make Greater Albany Public Schools a safer place to work and learn.
